OUD-SLOTERDIJK:
The former village of Sloterdijk has been part of the city of Amsterdam since 1921, located in the Amsterdam-West district, about 3 km west of the city center. Before it was annexed by Amsterdam in 1921, the village was part of the municipality of Sloten, which included Sloten, Sloterdijk, Oud-Osdorp and some smaller settlements. In the 13th century, the Spaarndammerdijk was constructed to protect this area from the (sometimes turbulent) water of the open IJ, then still an inlet. In 1465, the village was granted the privilege of building its own weigh house by lord Philip the Good (1396-1467), Duke of Burgundy. From that moment on, the village was called Slooterdyck.
